We are seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join our team in Spokane, Washington. In this role, you’ll lead the development of test systems, automation, and software to ensure products meet customer standards. You’ll collaborate with engineers, customers, and vendors, mentor team members, and drive continuous improvement in testing processes.
Senior Test Engineer
Job Summary: The Senior Test Engineer provides electrical test engineering support, focusing on automation, assembly, maintenance, and data collection. This role involves developing test routines, software, and systems to ensure that products meet customer specifications. The Senior Test Engineer is responsible for all aspects of production, costing, development, support, training, and automation related to testing across the organization.
- Perform all duties of a Test Engineer, as needed.
- Collaborate with customers to ensure products are diagnosable and testable.
- Lead the development and enhancement of test systems, operating systems, and peripheral improvements while maintaining complete system documentation.
- Provide leadership in the design and development of next-generation test systems and operating systems, including high-level software and hardware for future systems.
- Coordinate with external vendors to align system designs and provide detailed specifications for contracted equipment builds.
- Oversee projects and implementation plans for new product introductions, ensuring alignment with customer designs and requirements.
- Mentor and guide engineers and technicians supporting new development projects.
- Facilitate the transition of test process plans between facilities for new products.
- Offer technical expertise and advice on production feedback and support issues to test, manufacturing, product, and quality engineers.
- Develop quotes, pricing, test plans, automation methods, and process development for new products.
- Lead root cause analysis for test malfunctions and component verification.
- Establish and document corporate test strategies and a five-year plan.
- Ensure compliance of test plans with customer specifications.
- Provide recommendations regarding new product capacity issues and constraints.
- Define requirements for Design for Testability (DFT).
- Take ownership of assigned processes, demonstrating leadership in continuous improvement.
- Manage engineering projects, including schedule, budget, and specifications.
- Support the training and development of manufacturing and test engineers, including remote sites.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Attend meetings as needed to support organizational activities.
- Interact with customers, discussing highly technical issues with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Perform additional duties, as assigned, to meet corporate and departmental goals outside of normal responsibilities.
- Providing mentorship to engineers and technicians, offering technical expertise in areas such as root cause analysis of test malfunctions and component verification, and guiding teams to resolve complex testing issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science.
- 4+ years of relevant experience in test engineering, firmware development, computer programming in C, C++, and electronic circuits and system design.
- Proficiency in LabVIEW programming.
- Experience with manufacturing software such as MFG PRO or similar systems.
- Equivalent education and experience combinations may be considered.
- Strong knowledge of test output interpretation, troubleshooting defects, advanced programming languages, database management, network theory, and high-level component design.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts including statistics, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, and factor analysis.
- Experience with problem-solving, data collection, and developing process controls.
- Expertise in interpreting technical instructions, mathematical diagrams, and various technical variables.
- Ability to read and understand PCA assembly drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to communicate effectively to both technical and management teams.
- Proven organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in standard office equipment and software (e.g., CAD, email, word processing, spreadsheets).
- Ability to manage sensitive and confidential materials with tact and diplomacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years of relevant experience in test engineering within the manufacturing industry.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles.
- Familiarity with IPC-610 standards.
- Experience in Contract Manufacturing or EMS, particularly with offshore facilities.
Salary: $80,000 to $100,000/yr
