Senior Mechanical Engineer
Pacific Northwest engineering firm with more than 38 years’ experience in designing complex facilities throughout the Inland Northwest and internationally is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer.

Senior Mechanical Engineer Overview:
HVAC design experience in the AEC, HVAC, and MEP consulting industry experience who possess knowledge of mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) design concepts and how they apply to complex institutional (civic, higher education, health care, corrections, laboratory, and research) projects.

  • Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate possession of solid time and project management skills, excellent communication skills, and appropriate experience in providing high-level technical support and leadership for the work we do.
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software is necessary.

  • Applies a thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of engineering as related to the variety of aspects affecting HVAC design within large-scale, complex, and diverse building types.
  • Applies knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
  • Keeps informed of new methods and developments affecting design decisions and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis of programs.
  • Works on major projects in support of multidisciplinary teams responsible for working on complex building types.
  • Intricately involved in complete design from SD/DD through CA.
  • Develop understanding of firm scheduling via interface with Senior Principals and Scheduling Manager for scheduling of his/her projects.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Apply thorough knowledge of current principles and practices of consulting engineering as related to aspects of projects.
  • Apply knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
  • Apply knowledge of specific project needs to provide scheduling recommendations via interface with Principals, Associates, and Senior Project Managers.
  • Serves as the resource within the organization with the evaluation of technical and non-technical issues, and in the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area.
  • Keeps informed of new developments and requirements affecting the organization for the purpose of recommending changes in programs or applications.
  • Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates assignments.
  • Serve as a technical specialist on the project for the application of advanced concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area.
  • Keep informed of new methods and developments affecting the technical area of expertise.
  • Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate project assignments.
  • Provide engineering leadership for related discipline for projects of varying complexity.
  • Assist Principals, Associates, and Senior Project Managers with development of standards, guidelines, quality control programs, and new or improved techniques and processes.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Supervises a staff of engineers and technicians.
  • Attend construction progress meetings, walk the project site to review construction progress for conformance to contract documents, and report findings to design and construction team.
  • Plans, schedules, or coordinates the preparation of documents or activities for multiple major projects or is responsible for an entire program of an organization.
  • Reviews operational procedures to ensure compliance with applicable policies and a performance measures.
  • Review correspondence of project engineers; ensure accuracy/content.
  • Schedule educational meetings, include staff engineers and designers as speakers.
  • Identify weekly priorities confirm with Principals.
  • Provide Senior Principals with employee evaluation for annual review.
  • Recommend seminars for approval by Senior Principals. Direction Received
  • Receives administrative supervision with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives and limits.

Communication Skills

  • Routinely interacts with customers, officials, contractors, and others.
  • Leads project meetings and makes presentations.
  • Represents the organization and maintains liaison with individuals and related organizations.
  • Marketing (and interviews with Senior Principals)
  • Serves as client contact. Performs development and evaluation.
  • Maintain currency of communications (email, voicemail, etc.)
  • Maintain strong communication skills.
  • Maintain close contact with Senior Principals
  • Guard against project “scope creep” and unauthorized extra services.

Requirements:

  • At least 8 to 10 years of experience in HVAC engineering, consulting engineering, etc., with a strong technical background supporting diverse building and system types, such as those found in hospitals, laboratories, universities, and similar.
  • Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate possession of solid time and project management skills, excellent communication skills, and appropriate experience in providing high-level technical support and leadership.
  • Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) software is necessary.
  • Applies knowledge and expertise acquired through progressive experience to resolve crucial issues and/or unique conditions.
  • 8 to12 years of direct HVAC and MEP consulting industry experience who possess knowledge of mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) design concepts and how they apply to complex institutional (civic, higher education, health care, corrections, laboratory, and research) projects.

Education/Licenses

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Professional Engineer License – Required
  • Ongoing education to maintain technical proficiency in building codes, energy codes and sustainable design.
