Assistant Maintenance Manager – Food Manufacturing
Swing shift hours: 3:00pm to 1:00am Monday-Friday

THIS ROLE IS LOCATED BOISE IDAHO AND WILL REQUIRE RELOCATION IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE AREA.  

The Assistant Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring the smooth, safe, and productive operation of the entire plant. This role emphasizes production quality, technical expertise, and personnel management. The successful candidate will identify, investigate, and resolve issues, supervise the maintenance team, and participate hands-on in maintenance tasks. The Assistant Maintenance Manager will lead the team in making effective decisions regarding safety, production, and plant goals. The role involves maintaining, repairing, and minimizing downtime of all manufacturing equipment to ensure efficient and safe operations.

Assistant Maintenance Manager Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure all equipment operates properly and efficiently.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Order necessary parts and manage the parts inventory.
  • Train employees on proper equipment usage, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Input and maintain inventory information in the computer system, including vendor details and order points.
  • Take full responsibility for all aspects of inventory management and control.
  • Maintain and manage maintenance budget records.
  • Attend and actively participate in departmental and essential meetings.
  • Organize and manage inventory, identifying obsolete items and coordinating their proper disposal with controllers.
  • Negotiate with current suppliers for price and delivery, while seeking alternative suppliers, new products, and better prices.
  • Assist with parts room inventory management as needed.
  • Collaborate with the manager and superintendent on cost-saving ideas.
  • Oversee all inventory cost data and assist the Maintenance Manager in budget development.
  • Conduct miscellaneous research, simulations, and comparisons; develop and implement new reporting tools as needed.
  • Propose technical and organizational improvements to line management.
  • Participate in trials related to machines, products, and processes.
  • Organize team output, ensuring efficiency and proper headcount.
  • Plan and schedule manpower in alignment with production requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety rules.
  • Analyze occupational hazards, prevent potential risks, and take necessary measures to address unsafe acts or environments.

Technical Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Experience with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Skilled in the use of diagnostic tools, such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and vibration analysis equipment.
  • Knowledge of CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) for tracking maintenance activities and inventory.
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Proficient in computer software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Lotus, Kronos, Ultraware, Syswin, and AB software.
  • Experience in food manufacturing and understanding of industry-specific regulations.
  • Strong management and leadership skills, with the ability to train and supervise a maintenance team effectively.

Education:
Associate degree from a two-year college or technical school preferred.

Required Experience:

  • 3 to 6 years of hands-on experience in a maintenance department or equivalent.
  • 5 to 6 years of management experience, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
