Payroll & Accounting Specialist
Location: Airway Heights, WA
Job Type: Full-Time
Salary: $22.00–24.00 per hour
Hours: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll & Accounting Specialist to join our team in Airway Heights. This role is responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll, preparing accounting reconciliations, and supporting various accounting functions. The specialist will also provide backup support for other areas within the accounting department, such as Accounts Receivable, as needed.
This position is ideal for candidates with 2–3 years of payroll and accounting experience in a multi-state environment who are eager to contribute to a fast-paced, collaborative team.
Responsibilities
Payroll Duties:
- Process bi-weekly payroll using Paylocity, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and federal/state laws
- Compile documentation including time reports, pay changes, terminations, reimbursements, and employee deductions
- Maintain confidentiality of all payroll information
- Review payroll preview reports, resolve discrepancies, and submit payroll on schedule
- Prepare Accounts Payable payment requests for flexible benefits
- Manage garnishments, support orders, and other court-ordered payroll deductions
- Maintain accurate payroll records and coordinate employee changes with Human Resources
- Prepare payroll journal entries and assist with audits, including 401(k) and other payroll-related audits
- Respond to payroll inquiries from employees, supervisors, and government agencies
Accounting Duties:
- Reconcile balance sheets and income statement accounts monthly and quarterly
- Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules
- Maintain and update payroll policies and procedure manuals
- Serve as backup for Accounts Receivable tasks, including cash posting support
- Assist with additional accounting tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 2–3 years of payroll and accounting experience for 100+ employees in a multi-state environment
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and payroll processes
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and 10-key by touch
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, business documents, and regulations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work professionally with internal and external stakeholders
